Fire Hydrant Flow and Pressure Testing
Eng Tech Services Water Management Ltd. undertake Fire Hydrant Flow and Pressure Testing in accordance with IS 391:2020 and BS 9990:2015. The fire hydrant testing procedure involves logging the pressure and establishing the maximum sustainable flow rate from each fire hydrant. The condition of each fire hydrant and associated chamber is assessed and recorded in accordance with the inspection criteria. This ensures our clients comply with their statutory fire safety responsibilities under section 18(2) of the Fire Services Acts 1981 and 2003. Many large premises such as Hospitals, Industrial Units, Manufacturing Facilities, Business Parks, Factories and Universities have privately owned water hydrants installed on site for use by the Fire Brigade in the event of a fire. It is a requirement under both IS 391:2020 and BS 9990:2015 that any piece of fire equipment is maintained by a competent person at certain intervals. For a fire hydrant, a competent person needs to test and maintain a fire hydrant in accordance with I.S.391:2020 at least annually. This ensures optimum performance at all times, and provides evidence of compliance with fire certificates. The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage have published a A Fire Safety Guide for Building Owners and Operators in August 2023 setting out the requirements. This can be downloaded at the following link: Guide for persons having control under Section 18(2) of the Fire Services Acts 1981 and 2003 Eng Tech Services Water Management Ltd. can offer fire hydrant testing and inspection either as a once-off or as part of an annual maintenance contract.
